I’m pretty new to discovering Jeffree Star. I think I found his Instagram account a couple of months or so ago. And ever since then, I’ve been obsessed. And then I found out that he had a makeup class in Atlanta merely weeks before I “discovered” him. I was gutted.
To console myself, I decided that I was allowed to try out a few colors. So one day after a particularly stressful day at work, I decided it was finally time. I ordered three colors: Redrum, Unicorn Blood, and 714. Today, I want to show off my new Holy Grail red lipstick – Redrum.
First, some background on Jeffree Star:
Jeffree Star is a well-known musician, model, and makeup artist from the MySpace days. I’ve got to be honest, I don’t like his music at all. I’ve tried. BUT I am so enamored with his makeup that I can overlook music that is way off from what I normally like. I mean, seriously. Look at his cheekbones. Look at his lips. I wish I looked half as fabulous as he does.
Jeffree Star released these lipsticks last fall, the first product in his soon to be expanding makeup line. They are liquid matte lipsticks, best known for their lasting power. I’d heard rumors that they can last 8+ hours without a touchup needed (assuming you don’t eat greasy foods), so I was definitely curious. These lipsticks are also 100% vegan and cruelty-free, which I love.
So, today I want to show you Redrum. This is my favorite of the three colors that I picked up, and I wear it at least once a week at this point.
As I’ve started really wearing and loving making over the past couple of years, red lipstick has been growing on me. I used to be too afraid to wear it. But, in my dream world, I was always Shirley Manson from Garbage.
Even though I’ll never be as badass as she is, I can still try. And this lipstick color certainly makes me feel it.
It’s a true blue-toned red. The formula is a bit tough at first, getting used to it, but once you do, it’s not hard. It’s super liquidly, but it dries fast. So, if you make a mistake, you have to move fast. Otherwise, it is there until you bring on the makeup remover.
The good news is that once you get the lipstick where you want it, it stays. But it doesn’t stain, which I was surprised about. It lasted through multiple meals and MANY cups of coffee. I kept doing checks at work each hour, and each hour it still looked amazing. I ended up getting about 11.5 hours out of this before it started to really look worn. You can see in my pics though that after about 5 hours, the wear started happening in the middle of the lip. But other than that, perfect! At around 8 hours you can start to see the feathering (even with a lip liner). And at around 11/11.5 hours, you can see it at its worst. But still, the fact that I wore that lipstick for 11+ hours with NO touchups and it looked like that – pretty stellar.
How about I end with some pics from a look I did with this color? Look also features some eyeshadows from Ten Three Labs’s All Kill Collection. Bonus bunny photos – there was a bunny in my front yard while i was taking photos!
Stay tuned! Soon I’ll be sharing swatches of the other two colors I picked up, Unicorn Blood and 714.
