Today’s resolution look is one that features two colors I’ve never done more than swatch: In Rust by My Pretty Zombie and My Log Saw Something by Notoriously Morbid.
I’ve never worn In Rust, since generally I steer clear of orange things. It’s not a good color on me on the best of days, so I enjoyed having it in my collection, just to look colorful, bu I’d never actually worn it. So, given my resolution to use makeup that is not in my regular rotation, this was a perfect candidate.
I was going to pair it with Brisket by MPZ, which you guys know that I love and adore. But, I thought that’d be too easy. Also, I wear Brisket a LOT, and the whole point of this is to give other products a chance to shine.
So, I found another eyeshadow that’s never been worn, My Log Saw Something by NM. You may remember when I first got this, and if you do, kudos to you for sticking with me since then! I didn’t really love it. In fact, I didn’t really like it at all. It felt boring and normal, which is so odd, because almost every other NM eyeshadow has been a huge winner for me. So, since I’d never worn it, I thought I’d give it a chance as well.
It’s still not a color that makes me ooh and ahh. But, it is serviceable. It’s a reddish brown with a copper sheen to it, so it pairs nicely with In Rust.
Then to blend the edges, I pulled a color that I use often, although I don’t love it like I should: Melisende. It seems like such a boring color. It’s buff and a little sparkly, but not too sparkly. It feels like it’s easily dupable, but somehow I always come back to it. In fact, I had this in my “Meh, I’ll swap this someday” pile… but I keep going for it. I’m never going to swap this. I use it too much! It’s perfect. It’s like my skintone, but with a teensy bit of sparkle, making it perfect for blending for me. Even as a slight highlight. So, here I was not giving this eyeshadow much of a chance, when in actuality I use it a lot!
All in all, I like this look ok. I think it’s fun to try new colors and new combos. Am I sold on these colors? Not really. I don’t think the orange looks very good on me, although I am going to make an effort to use it more. And the brown is just a bit subdued for me. Maybe I’m just spoiled now by colors that are so complex they look totally different each time you look from a different angle! I do really love Melisende though, which is a great revelation!
