In January (yes, I know that was a long time ago… I am way behind lately on blog posts) Hello Waffle celebrated their first birthday! And with that came a sale! Ever since my r/IMAM swap partner got me on the HW train with Hot Crossed Bunnies, I’ve been wanting to make an order. But with shipping to the US being a bit high, I’ve been putting it off and putting it off.
But with a sale, I felt like I could be a bit more justified to make an order, at least in my head. Without trying to spend a TON of money, I picked up most of the colors I’ve been wanting.
Some dates for reference (note: Christine was nice enough to let me squeeze in just after the sale ended, and she still gave me the discount! Consequently, I was at the veeeerrrrrry end of the sale order turnaround time, so the delay here wasn’t concerning to me at all)
One thing to note, and this is minor… but there were these stickers used on the mini jars to keep them closed during transit (much appreciated), but the sticker stickiness was so strong that even after peeling the stickers off, the stickiness remains. Which means, these mini jars stick to everything. It’s so strange.
I’ve been really excited about the Catssic Literature collection, so you’ll see a lot of what I picked up is from that.
Note: all swatches are Darling Girl Glitter Glue on the left and NYX white base on the right.
Here are the colors I picked up in mini jars:
Portrait of Purrian Gray – Don’t you just love this name! I couldn’t resist. I wish I had gotten the full size so that I could have gotten the jar with the art on it, but I don’t think I’ll ever be able to use a full size of anything in my entire lifetime!
This color is a light gray with gold sparkles. When swatching, I couldn’t get the gold sparkles to show up perfectly, but I still really like this. It’s very wearable.
Catticus Finch – This color is lilac with red shimmers. The site says it’s a gray-ed lilac with copper sheen, but I don’t really see that as much as lilac with red shimmers. It’s a very subtle color. I think I expected it to be a bit more punchy, but I do still like it. I’m not jumping up and down, but I do like it.
Franz Katfka – I thought I would like this color. What I didn’t expect was that it would make me fall over when swatching. Wowsers! It is lovely. If you don’t have it, then get it. It’s a dark cool brown (site says beetle brown, whatever that means) with a super super strong green shift. The colors here are stunning.
23 – This color is from the 1000 Likes collection, an ode to the wonderful r/indiemakeupandmore community on Reddit. It’s a lovely rose gold, more on the rosy side. The main wow for me on this color which is something HW seems to excel at is texture. This color is so buttery. Like, when you swipe the brush over your lids, it’s like spreading warm, soft butter. Gross sounding, maybe. But amazing? Yes!
One of Us – This color is also from the 1000 Likes collection. To my eye, it’s a warm dark copper with a pink-ish background. The site describes it as “dark mauve/plum with golden shimmer”. Either way, this color is also so extremely buttery. It’s like painting makeup heaven on your face.
Here are the colors I picked up in sample sizes:
Call Me Ishmeow – This one is white with blue sparkles. The site says seafoam blue sparkles. I mean, I guess. This will be nice for highlights and whatnot. Overall, it’s pretty similar to other colors I have.
Ethereal Voice – This is one of those colors that HW is known for far and wide. I wanted to love it. I really did. It is a pretty dark pink-purple with gold sparkles. I like it, but I just don’t know how often I’ll wear it.
Asterisk – I’m not sure why I picked this one up. I don’t think I’ll use it much. the site describes it as “a matte brown base with magenta shift and sparkles,” but to me it’s a dark purple with purple and red sparkles. It’s very pretty, but I just dont see myself using it since it’s so dark.
June Bug blush – This is another thing HW is known for, so I had to pick it up. It’s a peach blush with lot of shimmer that makes it just glowwwwww. If you are a matte blush fan, this is not for you. What I love is that the shimmers stick around giving this such a glowing appearance, even throughout the day. At the same time, it’s not a POW IN THE FACE shimmer, so it’s very natural looking, which I love. I can definitely see why this is so popular.
Lavender Cream Highlighter – HW also has a huge fanbase on her highlighters, and I can see why. This one is cream with a white/blue/purple sheen to it. I love pairing this when I wear cooler eyeshadow colors. It really makes the whole look tie together.
Golden Veil Highlighter – This one is cream with golden sparkles. A lot of golden sparkles. I am head over heels for this one. I wear it whenever I wear warmer eyeshadow colors or colors with lots of gold in them. It gives an insanely lovely, but still nice and subtle, glow to the skin. Looooove!
Overall, I’m very pleased. There are a couple of shades that I liked ok, but then there were others (looking at you Katfka!) that made me fall out of my chair they were so beautiful. Would I order from HW again? Yep! I definitely would! Christine was so accommodating, letting me order from the sale late. Plus, the products are very high quality!
Bonus small swatches, just for fun:
